It is time to mark your calendars for the start of the annual Lehigh Spring Festival which runs March 10 to March 18.

Judy Carter, publicity chairman for the Lehigh Spring Festival committee, said the group has worked out the final details.

The deadline for the festival's Junior Miss/Queen Pageant is Feb. 19, which is also the kick off for the first of several rehearsals at Footnotes Dance & Music Studio.

"But our actual opening starts on Friday, March 10, with ceremonies at 6 p.m. at Veterans Park on Homestead Road," she said.

"It's going to be a great night of entertainment too because the Nowhere Band, which puts on a Beatles tribute show, will perform, kicking off the musical entertainment on the first night of the festival,"?Carter added. "These guys perform to sell-out shows throughout the state."

On the night of March 11, there will be a car show, which is very popular.

"Also on Saturday night the Johnny Rogers Band will perform, with Unforgiven as the opener," she said. "We're starting off the festival with some great entertainment."

Admission to the event is free, with a small parking fee to enter the park.

Some of the more popular aspects of the festival are the pageants, which will be held on March 12. There is the Baby/Toddler Pageant, newborns to age 3; Prince/Princess Pageant, children ages 4 to 8; and Junior Miss/Queen Pageant, girls ages 9 to 18.

There is also the Bubble Gum blowing contest and the Diaper Derby, which follows the Baby/Toddler Pageant.

For information or to register for any of the pageants, email Judy Carter at j4udy@earthlink.net. To register for the car show, Andy Reisinger is the contact person.

On March 12, the festival will feature the competition and beginner students from Footnotes Dance & Music Studio. Carter said they will return for an encore performance on March 13 at 6:30 p.m. The Dancing Divas will also perform.

The craft show will be held on March 11-12 and March 18, under the direction of Sandy Wheeler, who is handling registrations.

Festival-goers each year look forward to the Festival Idol contest, which runs March 13-15. Culver oversees the competition.

With pirates being so trendy, the public is welcome to dress up as a pirate on March 16. Lester Belcau and his band will perform.

The following day, March 17, is St. Patrick's Day

"The festival will be decked out all in green," Carter said. "The Susan Katz Dance Studio will showcase their dance students to kick off the evening, then Lehigh's own Live 'N Learn will perform."

The entertainment continues with Dani Dease opening, followed by the Rolling Stones tribute band called ZStonez Band.

"And of course, we have the traditional carnival throughout the week with wrist bands being sold in advance,"?she said.

Carter noted that it is the second year for the new carnival rides.

"We still have some sponsorship spots available," she said.

Contact Roxann James, Marissa Dupois or Vicki Culver for more sponsorship information.

On the last day, the park will be open for all kinds of activities. Performances will be held on the big stage; bleacher seating is available, but many attendees bring their own lawn chairs.

"It's going to be another great festival," Carter said.

She noted that the festival website at: www.lehighspringfestival.com/index.html will guide the public to contacts and explain how and when to sign up for things.

"The website will be a great help," Carter said.
