The General Woman's Club is holding its annual fashion show on March 25 to raise money for local single parents who are trying to advance their eduction by attending college, event chairman Sandra Jones said.

"Tickets are selling fast and it's first come, first served," she said. "We don't sell them at the door."

The tickets are $30 each. The event will be held at the Colonial Country Club, at 9181 Independence Way, Fort Myers.

This year, club members serving as models will wear the latest seasonal styles from Macy's.

"We expect at least 200 visitors, so that is why we hope our visitors will get their tickets before they are gone," Jones said.

For more than 50 years, the General Woman's Club has held the yearly fashion show.

"The event is the culmination of our year that ends in May," Jones said. "This is when all the women get their mojo on, go out and pound the pavements for donations."

"If all 64 of us women ask just one business, person or organization for one donation, just think what we collect to help to better someone else's life,"?she said. "But alas, our gals don't stop at asking once. We are on a mission to make someone's life count in this world."

"So, if you have the pleasure of meeting up with one of these fine women, please give generously and from your heart,"?Jones added. "Our gals are out there now looking for donations and our cause this year is to hand out five or six $750 scholarships - depending on what we raise - to single young women or men who have minor children living at home."

The scholarships will be presented on May 19 at the club's final meeting of the year. She noted that they go directly to the schools the students plan to attend.

The club comes back together on the third Friday of September.

Each meeting features a speaker, with snacks and beverages.

Some of the other activities that the club hosts include card parties, game days, luncheons, picnics, a holiday bazaar, silent auctions, a tea party and monthly breakfast.

"We really do have a lot of fun," Jones said.

New members are welcome.

"Tell them to come to our meeting in September, fill out an application," she said.

When the board approves the application, the annual dues of $20 will be collected.

"You are then installed," Jones said. "Easy peasy, nothing to it."

"We are looking for a few happy faces with some new ideas," she added. "We are looking for a few good women."

For tickets to the show, contact Jones at 615-289-7742 or any other club member.
