Fires have ravaged Lehigh Acres as of late, but local resident Richard Farsi is hoping to bring the community together to raise funds for those affected with the Stop Drop Rock and Roll event.

Farsi, who has spent years in the music business as a record label owner and promoter, was inspired to create the benefit concert when he saw the havoc a recent fire caused.

On April 21, a 400-acre brush fire started near 19th Street West and Ann Avenue, destroying several homes and vehicles before it was extinguished.

The concert will be held on May 21 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Lehigh Acres Christian Church.

Farsi hopes it is a chance to rally the community around the families in need.

"It's bringing the community together so everyone understands what the devastation is and what caused it and how to prevent it," he said. "We want the victims to know that we live in a community where people care about each other."

Local businesses and residents have donated items to be raffled off at the fundraiser. According to Farsi, all of the proceeds from the raffles will go directly to the fund to benefit the fire victims.

"Everything that you're going to be spending money on that day is going to be benefiting these (victims) and nothing else," he said. "We are really trying to get into the community's hearts to come out and show kindness."

Several bands are scheduled to provide live entertainment throughout the day, including Relentless Fire, Rule of Three, the Buckin' Wild Band and White Crow.

The fundraiser will also have a number of activities for children, including an 18-foot inflatable slide, a bounce house and an obstacle course.

The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District will be on hand to help educate attendees about brush fires. There will be a segment honoring the first responders who assisted during the fires.

Farsi said organizers want the fire victims to know that Lehigh stands behind them.

"These victims, we're doing it for them. We just want them to know that there are people out there who care and they have people they can fall back on," he said.

The on-site food vendors also plan to donate a percentage of their profits to the cause.
