View drawings, talk to staff about Joel Agri-Eco Park at open house
January 3, 2018

Lee County will hold an informal open house regarding Joel Agri-Eco Park.

It will take place Jan. 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bayshore Fire Protection and Rescue Service District, at 17350 Nalle Road, North Fort Myers.

Officials reported that a public meeting for the park was previously held in Lehigh.

"This is the second public meeting," Timothy Engstrom, a spokesman for Lee County, said. "Per the Lee County Comprehensive Plan, a meeting has to take place within the North Olga Planning District. Parks (and Recreation) doesn't have a building within this district, hence the department's plan to use the fire department location."

Attendees will have a chance to view 3D drawings of the park, a proposed 30-acre site off Joel Boulevard, about 1 1/2 miles south of Palm Beach Boulevard in East Lee County.

The community will also have an opportunity to talk to county staffers.

Plans call for the park to embody two prevailing themes: agricultural and ecological.

The agricultural component involves demonstration plots where visitors can learn how to use agriculture in urban or suburban settings, along with an outdoor classroom and shade house.

As for ecological, there will be areas where visitors can learn about pine flatwoods, meadow and littoral ecosystems.

Other proposed amenities include multi-use and primitive trails, shaded picnic areas, restrooms and on-site parking.
