Thirty-one members of the Lehigh Acres Senior Center Let's Entertain group will be gearing up for their October performance after they resume in September.

Let's Entertain Director Aura Wilson said the Tuesday morning class, which begins at 10:15 a.m. in the Senior Center auditorium, is for those who enjoy performing skits (comedy), singing songs and dancing. The group breaks every year in July and August before returning the Tuesday after Labor Day.

Although the class began in 2008, Wilson took over as the director in 2011. The Let's Entertain group is open to Lehigh Acres Senior Center members. Any member who wants to join can stop by any Tuesday the class is being held.

"We are looking for members," Wilson said, emphasizing the need for more men to join. "It's for anyone who wants to have fun acting, singing and doing comedy . . . looking to share their talents."

As the director, Wilson has the opportunity to pitch ideas to the group for performances, which often times includes them thinking of a name for the show.

"I tell them my plans and check it out with them," she said. "Then I pick the people to perform in skits, sing and dance based on what I know they can do."

Often times Wilson creates a specific character for the members of the group based on their personality.

The next performance, "Fall Funnies," is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Lehigh Acres Senior Center, 219 Plaza Drive. The performance is open to the public and will take the stage at 1 p.m. There is a $5 requested donation for the show, which goes back to the center to defray costs.

Once the group resumes after Labor Day, additional days of rehearsal will be added to also include Mondays and Wednesdays.

"They put in a lot of time, but they don't mind," she said.

Wilson said she enjoys being the director of the group due to its creative aspect. In addition to writing the material, she also enjoys figuring out the costumes everyone will wear for the performance.

She said she is never given a hard time from the group.

"They are willing to push the envelop," Wilson said.

The one thing she enjoys the most about the group is watching the members go from being nervous and panicky to shining on the stage.

"I get joy from watching them," Wilson said.

In addition to holding two performances a year, the Let's Entertain group also performs at the Birthday Lunch held every other month at the center. Other performances include the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners held at the center.

Wilson said they also go out into the community and sing at such places as the Lehigh Regional Medical Center.

"We go out and perform skits. We share happiness," she said.
