Once Teresa Goodlad retired after more than 32 years with State Farm at the end of February, her son-in-law decided to open Goodlad & Swank Insurance on March 1.

Butch Swank, founder and CEO, said they are a totally different entity now with a different business model, but still providing the same product and service.

"State Farm did a lot of amazing things and we are pretty grateful to be able to step in and offer the same product," he said. "We are offering insurance, but offering it from an independent agency perspective. We have wonderful carriers that we work with."

Goodlad & Swank Insurance offers home, boat, auto, flood, business and life insurance.

Swank said the great part of the new business is they can work with individuals and get an appropriate policy for them in one place.

"Our biggest strength is we are very community oriented," he said.

The office is at 702 Leeland Heights Blvd., the old State Farm office.

"The office is big and nice. It's great to be able to talk to someone in a nice professional environment. Each person on the staff has their own dedicated office, so we can consult with you and discuss risks and go over your life without you having to share with everyone else," Swank said. "Without exaggeration, our reception area is bigger than our old office. This is amazing."

There are currently four employees at the office, with the opportunity to fill five more offices.

Individuals can utilize a chat feature on their website, goodladandswank.com, or call (239) 674-7630 for more information.
