The first Community Dance is being held by First Christian Church of Lehigh Acres to introduce the new pastor to the community.

"We are looking so forward to having it," Maralyn Waline, a member of the First Christian Church, said. "We are trying to get the community to know us a lot better. This is our first program that we are planning. We are going to be planning quite a few things."

The Community Dance will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, on the campus at Faith Lutheran Church, 705 Leland Blvd.

Admission and refreshments are free but organizers ask that you call so they can get a head count. The church asks that those interested call by Tuesday, Aug. 13.

"I want to give the vendor plenty of time to make sure they have enough product," said Waline, who can be reached at (239) 368-4222.

Joe's Dog House and Catering will serve hot dogs, chips and drinks.

The dance will have music by DJ Judy, who has been a DJ for many years in the community.

"She will be playing a variety of different music. You will be able to find any kind of music that you like. We are going to have line dancing," Waline said.

Waline said she would also like for the community to meet the Rev. Libby McManis, the new minister.

"She is such a beautiful person," she said.

McManis began her career in the Kentucky state government for 20 years before she finally answered her calling. She attended Lexington Theological Seminary.

She has four grown daughters and seven grandchildren. She moved to Florida with her husband.

"Since moving to Florida I accepted this call from Lehigh Christian and I am very excited," McManis said. "I started on April 1. It's been absolutely wonderful. These church members are the kind every minister wants. This church has a true sense of community. I have served some really large churches. It is already my favorite one because of that sense of community and welcoming. They are hungry to learn about scripture and get close to God. Since I have been there, there has been a renewed energy and a sense of heading in the right direction for their theology and that inclusiveness that we live out."

She said this is the first time she has ever been to Lehigh Acres and she just loves the area due to its diversity.

"I came from the middle part of Kentucky, the blue grass and horse industry area. This of course is gorgeous too on a totally different level," McManis said.

She said she is excited for the Community Dance and her opportunity to meet the community, as well as the community meeting all of them.

"I would love to meet more people in the community other than my church members," McManis said.

First Christian Church of Lehigh Acres has a Bible study at 9:45 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. on Sundays.
