First Christian Church will hold its inaugural Blessing of the Animals this Saturday.

The blessing event will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, on the campus of Faith Lutheran Church, 705 Leeland Heights Blvd. East.

Pastor Libby McManis said they are so excited to offer the service.

"This will be our first year. I am new at the church. It's something I have always done. This will be an annual event. Anyone in the community that wants to bring any kind of animal is welcome," she said. "Each animal will receive their own blessing and a little certificate."

Those interested are asked to drop by anytime between 4 and 5 p.m.

"It will be outside of course near the chapel on the other end," McManis said, adding that there will be bowls of water for the animals. "If they want to bring cameras, it will be a sweet picture. Pictures are welcome."

She said there is a lot of focus on creation these days.

"There is so much these animals can teach us about getting along with each other. There will be dogs and cats there. They don't hiss and bark at each other. They seem to sense that it is a safe place with their owners there. They get along so well. More and more animals teach us we might be different, but we all have goodness inside. They show us how to get along," she said. "We bless them for that. For bringing us comfort and friendship in our life."
