Southwest Florida SHIELD Foundation and Mugs n' Jugs Family Grille will partner up for a trunk-or-treat and bus stop, fundraiser car show, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 10 p.m.

The event is in its second year and is already drawing strong community support. Proceeds will go towards a new program called Shield4Kids.

"We recently partnered up with Benches For Our Babes and began the program. Our goal is to find ways to keep our kids safe. The event will help raise money for both the bench program and make sure road flares and LED beacons are available for parents at each bus stop," Southwest Florida SHIELD Foundation Founder James Branham said.

The evening will feature a variety of activities including a car show, costume contest for the kids, hay ride, bounce house and games and awards for the best decorated vehicle.

Participants can enter to be in the car show for a $20 registration fee.

According to Branham, besides showing community support, local businesses can come out and promote their services/products to the public. Business registration is just $20. All vendors except for food will be accepted.

"It's a great way businesses to let the community know what they do, plus the money goes to a great cause," Branham said.

Throughout the day, Mugs n' Jugs will offer an assortment of food specials with coupons, which are available in S.H.I.E.L.D. brochures.

"Our brochures come out each month and include safety and educational awareness topics. This month we have a Halloween issue that will focus on how to keep kids safe when out trick-or-treating," Branham said.

Branham is also excited about their newest themed bench.

"We just got a new Shield4Kids bench designed. They went all out on this bench. It's got the American flag and Captain America," Branham. "We have a few volunteers in our organization that lend their time and creative talents to design benches like our recent Pokemon bench. They enjoy doing it. We just give them the supplies."

According to Branham, their goal for the benches is to not only provide safety but a way to beautify the neighborhood.

"We wanted to do something different than just put a plain bench at each stop. We plan to design some benches with learning skills and Dr. Seuss sayings," Branham said. "Business sponsors are also able to put their logo on the benches as well, to show the community that they're out there and care."

"None of this program works without the community helping out," Branham stressed.
